Damn, which question did she want me to answer first?

My mom had never spoken on me and Keyshia since the situation between the two of them happened. She would bring my kids to see me and aside from business and family matters she didn’t say much else. She was that type though. My mom wasn’t selfish. She would put her personal issues aside to help me get through my time, but trust and believe, when that time was up, she was going to have a whole mouth full of shit to say.

“I don’t know what I’m gonna do ma.”

She looked at me like I was stupid, “You know I really can’t believe I let you talk me into going over there and taking those kids from her. That girl loves the shit out them kids” she said shaking her head.

“That still don’t give her no right to put her hands on you.”

“Alight, we not gonna try and put that blame on my sister my nigga. She was wrong for laying hands on ma, but none of that would of happened had you not had ma go over there and then file a petition for custody. Let’s keep it G.”

“I’m saying… I know what I did was pretty fucked up. The kids didn’t have shit to do with anything we were going through. I can admit that. I messed up, and I been fucked up ever since I did that shit. I love the shit out of that girl, Ma, but there isn’t shit I can do now except apologize and try to fix what’s already broken. Nobody is perfect.”

“Oh negro please.” My mom blew me off, “I have no doubt in my mind that, you don’t love that girl or that she don’t love your big headed ass back, but what I do have doubts about is if you are even worth it. I would tell you to fix this shit…but honestly Cashmere, I don’t even know if she should forgive you. Or me for that matter.”

That shit cut my ass deep. Hearing your own mama tell you that you’re not worth someone’s love fucked a nigga up. Had I really done too much? Was the damage unsalvageable?

“Ma!” Sky’s voice called out.

All of our attention went to the kitchen doorway. Sky was walking in dropping his bags by the door.

“My baby boy!!” my mom shrieked.

Sky walked to where me and Ma was standing by the stove and picked her little body up into a bear hug. My mom was crying tears of joy, squeezing him back. This was the reaction that I was looking for.

“I missed you… let me get a good look at you.” she said, standing back to observe him.

Sky had put on some extra pounds. He looked like most of it was muscular though. I couldn’t front; my lil bro was looking good and I was happy he was back to himself. I hadn’t seen him when he went downhill with Mandy, but I had heard all about it from Prince.
